John Singleton got his share of the $19 million Nathan Tinkler spent at the Magic Millions sale this year but was less than impressed when racing's new player sent around a $15,000 purchase to beat his own $2 million colt at Randwick.

With Tinkler's number one rider Peter Robl aboard, Rollins ($21) edged out $3.20 equal favourite Seventh Reason to win the Chanteclair Maiden (1550m).

Rollins is trained at Newcastle by Jason Coyle and is one of the team formerly based at the Gold Coast stable Tinkler closed last month as part of a consolidation of his interests.

By Sadler's Wells out of Sunday Joy, Seventh Reason was making his debut after trainer Gai Waterhouse gave him seven barrier trials but even with Blake Shinn doing as much as he could, Robl got even more out of Rollins who won by a nose.

Although Waterhouse said she was pleased with Seventh Reason's performance her high profile client was anything but.

"I can't believe it, let's look at another photo," Singleton said.

"I can't believe Gai's so happy."

After fetching $15,000 as a weanling in 2006, Rollins was later sold again at the Magic Millions as a yearling for $41,000.

Coyle was naturally thrilled as was Robl.

"I really didn't know if I'd won and said the same to Blake," Robl said.

"He is a very consistent horse and just kept giving."

Adding insult to Singleton's injury, Palacio De Cristal came out a couple of races later to win the La Neige Maiden (1300m).

The Grahame Begg-trained filly is raced by Singleton's Magic Millions partner Gerry Harvey and ran home strongly to beat Dances On Waves by 2-1/2 lengths.

Singleton doesn't anticipate his week will get much better with Seventh Reason's close relation Tuesday Joy taking on Weekend Hussler in Saturday's Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

"Tuesday Joy has no chance at all, nothing can beat Weekend Hussler," he said.

"Gai thinks she can win but I can't see it. He is a champion."

Tuesday Joy was beaten more than four lengths when eighth in the Group Two Memsie Stakes (1400m) won by Weekend Hussler on August 30 before she defeated Devil Moon in the W H Stocks Stakes (1600m) two weeks later.

Waterhouse's stable rider Nash Rawiller is being kept busy in Melbourne while serving a suspension and has been riding the mare trackwork.

"Nash is looking after her and I saw her this morning and she looks fantastic. I'm sure she will fight out the finish," Waterhouse said.
