Epsom Handicap favourite Sincero will only run in the race if the time-honoured event remains at Randwick.

The Stradbroke winner's trainer Stephen Farley said the gelding would miss the Epsom and be taken to Melbourne if the work needed on Randwick's QEII grandstand roof is not completed in time and the Australian Turf Club's contingency plan of running the race at Rosehill eventuates.

ATC officials announced on Friday that its premier spring meeting on October 1 was set to be held at Randwick with work to be carried out to demolish some sections at the front of the damaged QEII grandstand roof to make it safe.

Saturday week's Group One George Main Stakes meeting has been moved to Rosehill to allow the work needed at Randwick to be carried out, which is planned to take 20 days.

"I haven't spoken to the owners today but at this stage I would say he'll stay and go to the George Main next week at Rosehill and then the Epsom," Farley said.

"He'll then probably go to Melbourne and back up in the Caulfield Stakes the week after."

ATC chief executive Darren Pearce said the contingency plan should builders encounter problems or if bad weather intervenes is to stage the October 1 meeting at Rosehill with the Epsom and Flight Stakes to be reduced by 100m to 1500m.

That decision would be made on September 26, the Monday before Sydney's major spring meeting.

"If that happens he'd be off to Melbourne," Farley said.

Sincero is being aimed at the $3 million Group One Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 22 and Farley wants to give his stable star the best preparation to win the weight-for-age feature.

The four-year-old returned in style last Saturday to win the Group Three Tramway Handicap (1400m) at Warwick Farm and is currently the $6 favourite with TAB Sportsbet for the Epsom.
