Rothesay out of Golden Rose

Rothesay is 43rd in the order of entry for the Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on August 29.

Ryan believes it would be asking too much of the colt to run him in the Up And Coming Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 22 and back him up a week later in the Golden Rose.

"If he runs in the Up And Coming that would be his first run in five weeks and then we'd be running him again a week later. I wouldn't do it, he's too valuable," Ryan said.

"He's a fair way down the list and we'd be chasing our tail to get him in and I reckon we can give the Golden Rose away and wait for something later in the spring."

Rothesay scored a brilliant debut victory at Rosehill on July 18 and had worked well earlier this week in his build-up to the 1000-metre Group Three San Domenico.

Stablemate and Golden Rose contender Hus Der Lieften continues to please Ryan ahead of his next assignment in Saturday week's Run To The Rose.

"He's going well, everything's fine with him," Ryan said.

Hus De Lieften has won successive races including an eye-catching half-length win over Stryker in the Rosebud (1200m) last Saturday.

The Hussonet colt sits 20th in the order of entry for the Golden Rose and a win in the Run To The Rose would cement his place in the race.

The San Domenico is a wide-open betting race with Queenslander Kiss Me Katy the $4.20 favourite on TAB Sportsbet ahead of Winter King ($5.50) and Shellscrape at $6.

The Peter Snowden-trained Purdey and Sunday Rose from the Bart Cummings stable are next best at $6.50.

Kiss Me Katy, from the Steven O'Dea yard in Brisbane, has won four of her five starts including the Listed Sir Douglas Wadley (1200m) at Eagle Farm in June.

While the San Domenico is a jump up in grade it isn't without precedence as two Queensland-trained fillies - Regimental Gal in 2003 and Gold Edition in 2006 - have won the feature sprint in recent years.
