Connections of Victorian filly Rostova will pay the $150,000 late entry fee for Saturday week's $3.5 million Golden Slipper after she handled the Sydney way of going with ease in a barrier trial at Randwick on Friday.

Rostova finished a length second in the 800-metre trial to another Victorian Slipper contender, the Peter Moody-trained Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort.

Ridden by Steven King, Rostova settled in third while Turf Express set the speed in front.

Reward For Effort, who sat behind Turf Express early, cruised to the lead near the 200 metres under a tight hold before Rostova emerged from the pack and the classy pair quickly put a gap on the field.

Jockey Luke Nolen had a good grip on Reward For Effort when he hit the line ahead of Rostova who was doing her best work late, while the Lee Freedman-trained Rock The Moment was 5-1/2 lengths away third.

Rostova's trainer Steve Richards was pleased with the work and confirmed the last-start Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) winner at Flemington would run in the Slipper.

"She'll be going there for sure," Richards said.

"She was starting to click into gear towards the end there, so that was pleasing and she showed us that she was able to handle the Sydney way of going and that was the main thing.

"She'd have had a month between runs when she goes to the Slipper so it was important that she had a good hitout and she certainly did behind the Blue Diamond winner."

Syndicator Dean Watt was thrilled with the run from Reward For Effort who was also having an educational trial in Sydney.

"We flew Luke Nolen up from Melbourne for this, it was very important the horse handled going the Sydney way today and he did it very nicely," Watt said.

"I think he's the forgotten horse in the Slipper, everybody is talking about More Joyous and Real Saga but they don't remember that Reward For Effort beat Real Saga fair and square in the Blue Diamond and Rostova was a fair back in that race too."

Black Opal Stakes winner Delago Bolt pleased trainer Gary Portelli with his 1200-metre barrier trial in which he finished just out of the placings in a star-studded heat won by Hot Danish with Light Fantastic second and Alamosa third.

TAB Sportsbet has More Joyous as its $3.20 Slipper favourite ahead of Real Saga at $3.50 while Rostova is next in line at $8.50 with Reward For Effort at $10 and Delago Bolt rated a $21 chance.
