Sydney's wet weather has Scone trainer Luke Griffith looking forward to Saturday's Randwick meeting where he has mudlark With A Chance engaged.

Track manager Dave Hodgson said the surface was heavy on Thursday after 66.5 millimetres of rain since Tuesday.

"The track could be slow at best but will probably be heavy with rain forecast right through to Saturday," Hodgson said.

That was what Griffith, who saddles up With A Chance in the final race of the day, the Blackwoods Welter Handicap (1600m), wanted to hear.

"The rain is good news for him, he really appreciates the sting out of the ground," Griffith said.

With A Chance is undefeated from six starts in slow going, with five of those wins in Sydney.

He won the Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill in July 2006 on a slow track.

The Commands gelding has two wins and a placing from seven starts on heavy tracks including a victory in the PJ Bell Country Championship (1400m) at Randwick on the Kensington track in June last year.

"He likes racing at Randwick, he's won twice on the Kenso and has won on the course proper over Saturday's distance too," Griffith said.

Seven-year-old With A Chance has the topweight of 60kg and will be ridden by Hugh Bowman who has enjoyed success in Sydney on the horse before.

"Hughie knows the horse back to front and he knows that he's best suited on the speed," Griffith said.

"The track will be pretty chopped up by the time they run the last and it will be very hard to make up ground.

"He's a real grinder and not a sit-and-sprint horse and has drawn well in barrier five."

With A Chance comes into the race after running 10th in the Listed Scone Cup (1600m) last Friday.

"He got stuck in a pocket and couldn't get out when he wanted to, so he was a bit unlucky," Griffith said.

The trainer was surprised that With A Chance was given 60kg.

"I was thinking more like 58.5kg after Scone but I suppose they are looking at the fact he's won more than $500,000 prizemoney," Griffith said.

"The hardest thing now is trying to find the right race after this.

"A couple of weak Listed races in Brisbane might be an option now that's it's wet there too, we'll see what happens."
