Multiple premiership winner Douglas Whyte could have to fend off two Australian jockeys this season to claim another Hong Kong title.

Whyte shares the early running with last season's adversary Brett Prebble but former Sydney rider Zac Purton is also gunning for the 10-time champion.

Purton continued his fine start to the Hong Kong season with another treble at Sunday's Sha Tin meeting.

He has now ridden 12 winners from 12 meetings to be two victories behind Whyte and Prebble.

Purton scored on favourites Little Bridge and Romantic City while Takeanotherchance was his least expected result.

"Takeanotherchance was a pleasant surprise, he trialled OK and his work has been sharp, but you couldn't come to the track with much confidence about him winning," Purton told the South China Morning Post.

"You can turn up to the races with a great book of rides on paper, but it's not often that they all perform and win as they should.

"You've just got to make the most of any luck that comes your way, and today everything worked out well."

Jeff Lloyd, meanwhile, rode a double as his brief tenure as stable rider for John Moore came to an end.

Lloyd, who rode in Sydney for 18 months between 2007 and 2009, will make way for Darren Beadman as the champion Australian rider returns from suspension.
