David Payne will have weight of numbers on his side when he heads to Hawkesbury for the stand-alone meeting on Saturday.

Payne has nominated Kettledrum and Madibagold for the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m) while three-year-olds Kimberley Kid, Girl Hussler and Atreyu will fly the flag for the stable in the Listed Hawkesbury Guineas (1400m).

Kettledrum, who won the Listed Sky High Stakes during the Sydney autumn carnival last year, is being aimed towards the staying races over the Brisbane winter carnival.

He has been freshened since he resumed with a sound seventh to subsequent Doncaster Mile third placegetter Brilliant Light in the Group Two Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill in March.

While Payne concedes Kettledrum will be better suited over further than the 1600m of the Rowley Mile, the five-year-old does have a handy second-up record with a win and placing from four starts.

"Saturday's race will probably still be too short for Kettledrum but he has done well," Payne said.

"He will head to Brisbane for some of those staying races, it's a bit weaker for him up there."

Madibagold will have race fitness on his side having been in work since January.

Payne has spaced his runs this campaign and the gelding hasn't been far away in three starts since he scored over 1200m at Rosehill in February.

He comes into the Hawkesbury assignment following a seventh to fellow Rowley Mile contender Bay Window over 1400m at Randwick on April 17.

Guineas hopeful Kimberley Kid has not won since taking out a two-year-old race in May last year but has been racing consistently this preparation and has collected a prizemoney cheque at each of his four starts, including a second to True Persuasion at Moonee Valley earlier this month.

Stablemate Girl Hussler will tackle the Guineas second-up after doing her best work late when runner-up to Jest Crewsin' at Canterbury last week.

"Kimberley Kid is well, he just needs to draw a barrier and get a bit of luck in the run," Payne said.

"Girl Hussler ran second last Wednesday and she's come back well. She can only improve, that was her first run in three months."

There were 23 entries on Tuesday for the Rowley Mile headed by Group One winner Mentality and Doncaster fourth placegetter Drumbeats.

Mentality finished third in the Group Two Ajax Stakes two starts back before running last in the Doncaster on April 10.

Drumbeats turned in a big performance in the Doncaster to finish less than two lengths behind the winner Rangirangdoo after jumping from barrier 20.

The Guineas attracted 26 nominations including the Chris Waller-trained Stryker as well as last-start stakeswinner Star Of Octagonal, while the Darley Crown (1300m) for fillies and mares has 20 entries.

As well as the Guineas, Payne also has Girl Hussler nominated for the Darley Crown.

Darley trainer Peter Snowden has entered last-start Sapphire Stakes winner Renaissance and stablemates Jerezana and Serenissima in the Listed race.
