Josh Parr will jump back aboard lightly-raced Talapega at Rosehill on Saturday and is eager to see whether the mare can go to another level this preparation.

Parr rode the Alan Scorse-trained Talapega three times for two victories early this year and rated her a galloper on the rise.

The jockey couldn't make the weight when Talapega finished down the track in the Listed Wiggle Quality (1400m) at the end of her previous campaign but Parr is looking forward to renewing the partnership in Saturday's Banjo Advertising Handicap (1200m).

"I can't wait to ride her on Saturday," Parr said.

"I have won a few races on her and she always gave me the feel of a nice mare in the making.

"I hope she's gone to the paddock and come back better again for this preparation, I didn't trial her the other day but the reports were she trialled well.

"It will be interesting to see if she has got a few more wins in her, I think she has but sometimes mares can reach their level pretty quickly.

"You never know what they are going to be like until they come back again but I'm definitely looking forward to her return."

Talapega was formerly trained by Greg Hickman at Warwick Farm but was transferred to Scorse at Newcastle after just one start for one win.

The five-year-old returned from a long absence in a midweek event on the Kensington track at Randwick in February and firmed from $12 to $4.40 before finishing second.

Talapega was an impressive winner at Warwick Farm at her next start and then earned a shot at the Wiggle Quality when winning the $40,000 Queen Of The North (1200m) at Port Macquarie on February 22.

The daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus won an 800m trial at Newcastle on June 27 ahead of her return.
