Group One-winning mares Arapaho Miss and Grand Journey will clash in next Saturday's UCI Stakes at Flemington after the pair impressed in an exhibition gallop at Mornington.

Their respective trainers Pat Carey and David Brideoake were delighted with the workout, held following the second event on Ansett Classic day.

Arapaho Miss, with Rhys McLeod in the saddle, and Grand Journey, with Jason Benbow up, worked side by side for the full lap workout.

The pair cantered for half the lap before being asked to pick up near the 800 metres. They finished solidly in the straight and crossed the line together.

Brideoake was thrilled with the condition of Grand Journey, who recently resumed when unplaced over 1200 metres at Caulfield.

"It was perfect," Brideoake said of the workout.

"She kicked off last Saturday at Caulfield over 1200 metres. She will now head to Flemington over 1400 next week.

"Then there will be some spring races for her. Something like the Matriarch (Stakes) or the Myer (Classic).

"We will then reassess where we are - potentially there is Perth."

Grand Journey shot to prominence in Western Australia when as a three-year-old she completed the WA Oaks and Derby double.

Meanwhile, Carey said VRC Oaks winner Arapaho Miss looked in great shape and he was looking forward to her resumption next Saturday.

"She looks like she's come back really well. Physically she's a more mature filly," he said.

"All being well, provided she has a good week this week, she will line up next week in the UCI Stakes at Flemington - 1400 metres for mares."

"Rhys McLeod will most likely ride her next week. Corey Brown is still in Sydney and we'll just assess that down the track."

Carey thanked his local club for allowing him and Brideoake to give their stars a hitout on the course proper.

"It's great to be able to take full advantage of a premium service that Mornington Race Club has provided her today," he said.

"The track's in absolutely pristine condition and they deserve to be complimented.

"It's lovely to see two Oaks winners working head and head together and getting full advantage of the gallop.

"They'll be seeing a bit more of each other."
