Gordon Yorke believes Nuclear Medicine is every bit as good as he's ever been and the Coffs Harbour trainer hasn't given up hope that the six-year-old can play a significant role in the upcoming Brisbane winter carnival.

Yorke is really happy with the way Nuclear Medicine has come up this preparation and won't discount a Stradbroke Handicap tilt if everything falls into place and he can qualify the gelding for the $1 million Group One event to be run at Eagle Farm on June 12.

The trainer said the new Proride training track at Coffs Harbour had really aided him in preparing Nuclear Medicine for his current campaign and the gelding will be out to atone for a narrow first-up defeat by The Jackal when the pair clash again in Saturday's $100,000 Listed Falvelon Quality (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

"If we get rain tomorrow and it's dead to slow he's going to be a real threat, that's why I'm getting him ready now, looking for some adverse weather heading into the winter," Yorke said.

The Jackal just ran down Nuclear Medicine a fortnight ago to win by a neck in a 1200m Quality.

"He was in front of The Jackal until the last two strides. The Jackal was in quite well at the weights (with 59.5kg) and he's a very good horse - he's won almost $1 million," Yorke said.

"I did think over 1200 metres first-up my bloke could just be found wanting in the last few strides and it panned out that way, but it was still a very good run."

Yorke believes The Jackal is the horse to beat again on Saturday despite Nuclear Medicine meeting the Paul St Vincent-trained runner 1kg better at the weights.

However, if the track happened to get any significant rain Yorke said his horse would prove an even bigger threat.

Eagle Farm received 4mm of rain on Thursday night and was rated a Dead (4) on Friday with the chance of more showers before the running of the Falvelon Quality.

Nuclear Medicine has won six of his 12 starts on tracks rated slow or heavy and has been placed a further three times.

That's why Yorke is still keen to see if Nuclear Medicine is good enough to earn a place in the Stradbroke later this preparation.

"If he could sneak into the Stradbroke with a light weight and we happened to get some rain I think he could give a lot of cheek," he said.

"If you're not thinking ahead towards these things you get caught out. And there's nothing more painful than regret."
