Fresh from his longshot win aboard Dance With Her in the Golden Mile, leading apprentice Jake Noonan is looking to build some more momentum at Sandown where he has three mounts on Wednesday.

The win on the $71 chance in the $125,000 event at Saturday's stand-alone Bendigo meeting was the biggest Noonan has had since a serious race fall at Flemington on May 7 last year.

Noonan suffered severe concussion when his mount Safe fell and he was sidelined for six months before he was cleared to resume race riding.

Noonan's father, Mornington trainer Tony Noonan, said it was a case of out of sight out of mind with the apprentice who was "flying" before the fall but wasn't getting the same level of support from some stables since his return.

"It's been a long haul for him," Noonan said.

"He's been riding well but he's just had very little support. I don't know whether it is because of the fall they sit off and think he mightn't be the same.

"So he's had to work really hard at that.

"People's expectations of him are very high. He's just turned 19 and he's still learning.

"For him to come back has really been a terrific effort."

Noonan who was the leading apprentice in Melbourne last season despite not riding for the last three months of the season, can ride at 54kg and still claims 1.5kg in the metropolitan area.

He has mounts for three different stables at Wednesday's Lakeside meeting.

He rides Epic Dragon in the Hyland Race Colours Hcp (2100m) for Malua Racing's John Sadler, Rock Musician in the TMB Printing Maiden Plate (1400m) for trainer Robbie Laing and Crimson Lady in The Cove Hotel Hcp (1400m) for the Mike Moroney stable.

Noonan said he tried not to take too much notice of what odds his mounts were.

"I ride every horse whether it is a 100-1 shot or $3 favourite like it is a winning chance because of the competitive nature I've got," he said.

Noonan is equal 15th with Danny Nikolic on the metropolitan jockeys' premiership with 13 winners and has ridden 32 winners in Victoria so far this season.
