Trainer Gerald Ryan is considering a change of riding tactics for Hot Snitzel in the erratic youngster's bid to deny the Darley juggernaut victory in the Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Ryan has studied Hot Snitzel's form closely and believes two of his best performances came when he was ridden back in the field in the Inglis Nursery and Group Three Kindergarten Stakes at Randwick.

"In the Inglis he got a long way back and ran home really strongly after running into heaps of trouble," Ryan said.

"In the Kindergarten he ran third after being stopped in his tracks at the top of the rise at Randwick.

"I reckon he would have won that race had he got a clear run."

Hot Snitzel made a spectacular Queensland debut when jockey Nash Rawiller bustled the son of Snitzel out of the barriers to take a up a prominent early position in the Listed Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast on May 7.

He went on to win the feature by six-and-a-half lengths before finishing third at his next start to Free Wheeling in the Group Two Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 21.

Ryan always feared the Champagne Classic as a race that would not suit Hot Snitzel and is keen to see him stretch out on the roomier Eagle Farm track.

"Because of the small Doomben circumference I always thought he would be vulnerable around that track," Ryan said.

Ryan can't fault Hot Snitzel since the youngster's Champagne Classic placing.

"He's bright and well and his work last Saturday and on Tuesday at the Gold Coast was first class," he said.

Ryan is overlooking Hot Snitzel's defeat in the Champagne Classic when he was caught wide approaching the home turn.

"He raced on the speed and was caught three deep coming around the corner," he said.

"He almost got in at one stage but another horse got up on his inside and pushed him wider.

"He only just went down to Free Wheeling and the other horse (Double Impact)."

Ryan rates Free Wheeling over Darley stablemate Benfica as the main threat in the Sires' Produce.

"I had a good look at Free Wheeling in the Doomben enclosure and he looked to have improved a lot since the day he ran second at Canterbury (May 7)," Ryan said.

"There's no doubt he'll be further improved and is the one to beat.

"I'm considering riding Hot Snitzel a lot quieter so he can run home and if I do change tactics I'll inform stewards tomorrow morning."
