Kevin Moses is hoping the new year will bring a change of luck with Tenant's Tiara despite a difficult draw in the Carrington Stakes.

The Beautiful Crown mare is the TAB Sportsbet $2.80 favourite for the 1100-metre race at Randwick on Thursday and comes into the sprint after running 12th to Rubinda in the Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) on December 20.

Tenant's Tiara pulled hard throughout during the race and was trapped behind runners in the straight.

And the bad luck continued for the mare when she drew barrier 13 in the Carrington.

"She'll need some luck from out there but at least she won't get into any trouble being out that wide," Moses said.

"She drew barrier one in the Razor Sharp and look what happened to her. That's racing. Sometimes you just have those bad days."

Leading jockey Corey Brown, who returns from suspension, takes over from Rod Quinn on Tenant's Tiara.

But Moses said Quinn was not to blame for the mare's Razor Sharp defeat.

"It was one of those days were everything that could have gone wrong did, she had no absolutely no luck," Moses said.

"Rod did everything right. He rode her the way I wanted to.

"I told him not to drive her out of the barriers because if she sees daylight she goes too hard but in the end she couldn't get a run."

Moses said Brown was one of a several top jockeys keen to ride Tenant's Tiara.

"Corey's manager was the first on the phone to me out of the four managers of top jockeys who contacted me and he got the ride," Moses said.

"It's a good sign when you have these top riders wanting the ride and they know what she's capable of doing on Thursday.

"Hopefully Corey can park her just off the speed with cover and if he does that she'll do the rest when they straighten."

Moses said Tenant's Tiara was in mint condition for the Carrington Stakes.

"It's as though she didn't go around the other day, it took nothing out of her. Her work has been great and she is ready to run a big race," Moses said.

The four-year-old has won four of her eight starts including the Strada Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in March.

One month later she finished second to Belong To Many in the Group Two Sapphire Stakes.
