Impressive filly Cortina Gal has been sent to the paddock and will miss next month's $2 million Magic Millions Classic.

Trainer David Payne revealed Cortina Gal was sore after her all-the-way victory on debut in the Wyong Slipper on December 7.

"She'll be out for a couple of months," Payne said.

"She jarred-up. It was nothing too serious but enough to send her to the paddock and cancel plans of running her in the Magic Millions."

TAB Sportsbet on Monday had Cortina Gal listed as a $15 chance on its fixed odds market for the rich two-year-old feature at the Gold Coast on January 10.

Cortina Gal ran up to her promising trial form when she displayed natural speed to beat another Magic Millions hopeful Koblenz at Wyong.

Going straight to the front for Jeff Lloyd, Cortina Gal held on to win by a long neck.

The Flying Spur filly was nominated for the inaugural Strawberry Hill Magic Millions Prelude at Randwick on Boxing Day before Payne decided to end her campaign.

Cortina Gal's Wyong victory was an emotional one for Payne and one the former South African horseman dedicated to the late Bruce Reid whose name the filly's syndicate races her under.

Payne said it was Reid who helped him establish a competitive stable in Sydney when he arrived in Australia just over five years ago.

The trainer won his first Australian stakes race with one of Reid's horses when Miss Helterskelter claimed the 2003 Breeders Classic.

Reid's son David is a shareholder in Cortina Gal, who cost $200,000 as a yearling.

"She's a very special horse to the stable and we hope to have her back as soon as possible," Payne said.

McDougall Stakes winner Paprika is the $3 favourite in pre-post Magic Millions betting ahead of fellow Queenslander Racing Pegasus at $6.50.
