The summer target for Lyncean Academy will be determined by how he performs over 1400 metres at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Villiers Stakes (1600m) on December 19 and the Summer Cup (2400m) a week later are the options being considered by trainer Guy Walter.

"Saturday will be the test as to whether we aim at the Villiers or step him up to the longer races," Walter said.

"The question is whether he is looking for further.

"He showed plenty of stamina in the JRA Plate and the McKell Cup but he was also very, very good in the Rowley Mile."

Lyncean Academy was an emphatic winner of the $100,000 Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury in May after finishing second in the Listed JRA Plate.

Two starts after the Rowley Mile he finished third in the Listed McKell Cup (2400m) won by Ready To Lift on a heavy track.

He has had two runs back from a spell finishing 1-1/2 lengths sixth in the Listed Lightning Handicap (1100m) at Randwick on October 17 and eighth, beaten less than three lengths in the Listed Yalumba Cup at Hawkesbury on November 5.

"I think his two runs back have been very good," Walter said.

"He is carrying plenty of condition this time.

"Last preparation at the same stage he ran as if he was looking for further but it may not be the case this time.

"For a six-year-old he is lightly raced and is a good, tough honest customer who deserves to win another good race."

Lyncean Academy was one of 15 entries for the open handicap while there were 17 nominations for the two-year-old fillies race over 1100 metres.

The most experienced of those is the Tim Martin-trained Lohan, the winner of two of her three starts and third to Intertidal at Rosehill last time out.

Naturalism Stakes winner Red Lord has been entered for the Benchmark 90 handicap over 1800 metres.

After his win in the Group Three Naturalism (2000m) at Caulfield on September 19, Red Lord's form in Melbourne fell apart.

He finished last in the Turnbull Stakes, 14th of 18 in the Caulfield Cup then beat just two home in the Emirates Stakes.
