Kirklees is favoured to make it back-to-back victories for the renowned Godolphin stable in Saturday's $2.5 million Caulfield Cup after drawing ideally in barrier seven.

Godolphin won the race for the first time with $41 shot All The Good who jumped from gate six when he won last year.

Kirklees will come in to barrier six if the emergencies don't gain a start as third reserve Newport drew barrier one.

Kerrin McEvoy, who won on All The Good, will take the ride on Kirklees who has won his past three starts in England, the latest carrying 61kg in the Group Three September Stakes (2414m) at Kempton on September 5.

"The horse is in good form and ready to run a big race on Saturday," travelling foreman Tommy Strang said.

"He's a more proven performer than All The Good at this stage in their careers.

"He won a Group One as a two-year-old, he's won a Group Two and a Group Three."

Strang said trainer Saeed Bin Suroor and McEvoy could pick and choose where they want to be in the race with Kirklees from the good draw.

"I'm sure he won't be far off the pace," he said.

The barrier draw caused a betting reshuffle after pre-draw equal favourites Predatory Pricer and Vigor drew barriers 16 and the outside, 22, respectively.

Kirklees firmed from $10 to $8 favouritism with TAB Sportsbet fixed odds after the draw for the 2400m feature which promises to be one of the most open in memory.

Predatory Pricer drifted from $7 to $8.50 while Vigor eased from $7 to $10.

A good draw in the Caulfield Cup is considered vital as only four horses have won the race from outside gate 11 in the past 22 years - Mummify (13 in 2003), Mannerism (13 in 1992), Let's Elope (17 in 1991) and Lord Reims (18 in 1987).

The Luca Cumani-trained Cima De Triomphe is at $8.50 after drawing barrier 11 with New Zealand-trained mare Daffodil firming from $11 to $9 after drawing four.

Cumani's wife Sarah said Cima De Triomphe was "the most obvious chance" of the horses the stable had brought to Australia which include Melbourne Cup runners-up Purple Moon and Bauer, and Mad Rush who ran fourth in last year's Caulfield Cup.

"He's been running in different class races than the horses previously and he's got some big names that he's finished behind," she said.

"It's easy to finish behind the big names but he needs to be winning."

Seven of Cima De Triomphe's last nine starts have been at Group One level including a victory in the Italian Derby (2200m) in May last year.

Master trainer Bart Cummings, trying to win the race for the seventh time, fared well with two of his trio of runners with Roman Emperor and Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder drawing alongside each other in barriers five and six.

However reigning Melbourne Cup champion Viewed drew out in 15.

Cummings' son Anthony's trio all drew nicely with Red Lord in three, Zavite in eight and fourth emergency Miss Darcey in nine.

New Zealander Harris Tweed, prepared by Murray and Bjorn Baker, drew well in barrier two while the Mike Moroney-trained Sarrera came up with barrier 10.

The Robert Smerdon-trained Light Vision, the last horse into the field, drew barrier 19.
