Perfectly ridden by Craig Williams, the eight-year-old settled worse than midfield in the 16-horse 3200m feature but finished too strongly along the inside to beat Divine Rebel and New Zealander Mr Tipsy.

"He got the conditions he loves," Little said of Ista Kareem who was a last-start fourth to Divine Rebel in the Group Two Chairman's Handicap (2600m) at Randwick on April 11.

"It was a lovely ride."

Williams thanked Ista Kareem's regular jockey Danny Brereton for helping him with information on how best to ride the gelding who took his record to 12 wins and 12 placings from 61 starts for prizemoney in excess of $1.13 million.
