Trainer Robbie Heathcote had his time in the spotlight in Queensland last season and is now hoping to make his mark interstate with promising three-year-old Funtantes.

Heathcote's decision to turn his back on a career as a European tour leader 11 years ago was finally rewarded when he won his first Brisbane trainers' premiership last season.

It was also the season in which his star filly Funtantes was named Queensland's Two-Year-Old of the Year.

Funtantes will have her first start as a three-year-old when she returns in Saturday's Ideal Electrical Handicap (1110m) at Doomben which could see her head to Sydney and possibly Melbourne for the spring.

Heathcote has never prepared a winner in either Sydney or Melbourne.

"I've taken a few horses away to both Sydney and Melbourne but my best result was with Tony Santic's horse Game On who ran second in the Summer Cup at Randwick a few years ago," Heathcote said.

Heathcote has booked three kilogram-claiming apprentice Mitchell Speers for Funtantes to offset her topweight of 59.5 kilograms in her first start since failing in the Group One TJ Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm in June.

The daughter of Easy Rocking had previously finished fourth to Shoot Out in the Group Two Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm after winning three of her previous four starts including the Group Two Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben in May.

Heathcote believes Funtantes has been in work long enough to be competitive first-up.

"She's had a jumpout and won quite comfortably," Heathcote said.

"But I'm still not convinced she can get past 1200 metres.

"She ran in the TJ Smith and wasn't beaten far after she blew the start. It was a nice run.

"In the Sires she was taken on in front and was run down in the last 50 metres to finish fourth."

Heathcote is hoping Funtantes can carry him to greater things in the south if she makes a satisfactory return.

"This will probably be her only run here if all goes to plan," he said.

"All going well she'll go to sydney for the Heritage and Roman Consul Stakes and if her form warrants it I'll send her to Melbourne."

The Listed Heritage Stakes (1200m) will be run at Rosehill on September 19 with the Group Two Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on October 3.

Her main Melbourne goal will be the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on October 31.
