The Hawkes stable is hoping some of the Black Caviar luck will rub off when the wonder mare's rider Luke Nolen partners Rainbow Styling in the Group Three Chairman's Handicap at Doomben.

Rainbow Styling returns to Queensland for the fourth straight year in Saturday's 2020m feature.

The six-year-old's first trip was as a three-year-old when he finished a close fourth in the 2008 Queensland Derby won by Riva San trained by Black Caviar's trainer Peter Moody.

Rainbow Stylish was back the following year for another one-off start in the Group Three Tattersall's Cup in which he finished a creditable fifth behind the Brian Smith-trained Hume.

Last year, Rainbow Stylish made another attempt to win the Tattersall's Cup but after claiming the Ipswich Mile (1666m) on June 19 he again finished on the placegetters' heels in fifth place, less than four lengths from winner, Mirrasalo.

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes expects Rainbow Styling to be competitive against his weight-for-age opposition but has not pencilled in any of the major staying races this winter for the six-year-old son of Zabeel.

"We're looking at races between 2000 metres and 2200 metres for him," Hawkes said.

"Races like the Ipswich Cup and the Tattersall's Cup again look ideal for him."

The Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) is on June 18 with the Group Three Tattersall's Cup (2200m) at Eagle Farm a week later.

Rainbow Styling has had only three starts this campaign and is coming off a sixth to Hawk Island in the Listed JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick on April 16.

"He didn't handle the heavy track last start but if we can get a dead track on Saturday he'll be very competitive," Hawkes said.

"His previous run was in the Queens Cup and it was a good effort to finish fifth over the 2000 metre trip.

"It was only his second run back from a spell and his run peaked 50 metres out."

The Hawkes stable has a small team based at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, for the winter carnival.

"We've only got three here at the moment after sending Dao Dao for a spell following his Hollindale Stakes failure last Saturday," Hawkes said.

"But a few more might come up later on."

Love Conquers All will spearhead the Hawkes' stable in Brisbane in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 11.

Chris Munce retains the mount on Love Conquers All in the Stradbroke after riding him to Group One seconds to Rangirangdoo in the George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill and Sacred Choice in the Doncaster Mile at Randwick last month.
