A horse raced by one of Australia's biggest punters and an unraced Crown Lodge colt have been identified as early Golden Slipper firmers during the first day of pre-post betting on the world's richest two-year-old race.

Wanted, who counts the Hayson Bloodstock Syndicate among his owners, and the Peter Snowden-trained Demerit, attracted most attention when leading Sydney fielder Colin Tidy opened his Golden Slipper book on Friday.

Hayson Bloodstock is the business name for leviathan punter Eddie Hayson's thoroughbred interests.

"Money-wise, there hasn't been a lot of action but the inquiries for Wanted and Demerit have been strong," a Tidy spokesman said.

"A punter rang up soon after the market went up and we expect him to back Wanted to win half a million dollars."

Wanted, the winner of his only start, has been listed as a $26 chance.

Since winning at Rosehill on November 1, the Fastnet Rock colt has been transferred from the Hawkes stable to Randwick trainer John O'Shea.

There had also been immediate interest in Demerit, a colt by Lonhro from the Group One-winning mare Shame, the spokesman said.

"We've had a few people wanting to back Demerit but we haven't taken any money for the horse just yet," he said.

Demerit isn't among Golden Slipper entries but Tidy has included the colt as a $51 chance in his market based on the strength of the early interest.

The colt, yet to be seen in public, is the sixth foal produced by Shame, winner of the QTC Sires' Produce Stakes and the Thousand Guineas during a career which netted almost $900,000 in stakes.

The best of Shame's progeny to race has been Evander, a Group One placegetter during a 27-start career.

While Tidy has installed Breeders' Plate winner Real Saga as an $11 opening favourite, the first bet he wrote on this year's race was on the $101 chance Delago Bolt.

And while Hawkes yard may have lost Wanted, the veteran bookmaker believes Real Saga gives the training partnership a formidable shot at Golden Slipper glory in its first season of operation.

"Real Saga looked good winning the Breeders' Plate and he is with a team which knows how to win a Golden Slipper," the spokesman said.

Unbeaten Queensland filly Paprika and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Horizons share the second line of betting at $13.

Come Hither and Our Joan Of Arc are next in line at $15.

For punters looking for a long shot, five horses have opened at $501, including Bargaining, a colt raced by big-spending owner Nathan Tinkler.

The $3.5 million Golden Slipper will be run at Rosehill on April 4.
