The legacy of outstanding mare Whisked has been to the fore over the past couple of days with Hood winning on debut on Friday and Sandberg victorious at Randwick 24 hours later.

Shamardal three-year-old Hood is a son of Whisked making him a half brother to the champion Tie The Knot while Carnegie four-year-old Sandberg is out of Whisked's daughter La Zabaglione.

They are raced by Sandy Tait and his sister Jill Nivison and like Tie The Knot, trained by Guy Walter.

Sandberg displayed his potential as a stayer with a determined nose victory over Zampara in the Bosco Bulldogs Race Day (2400m) at Randwick.

"He is a very promising horse and we are looking at the spring with him," Tait said.

"I don't know how far he will go but it's very nice to win a race at Randwick on a Saturday again.

"It was also great to see Hood win but I'm not sure how far he will go this preparation."

Walter said Sandberg had the makings of a good horse but was reluctant to put too much pressure on Hood who was successful at the NSW country track of Goulburn on debut.

"Sandberg has been up a long time so Sandy and I will discuss whether we put him away now and get him ready for spring," he said.

"I didn't expect Hood to race as forward as he did yesterday so it was good that he still won.

"I'm really not sure where we go."

Kathy O'Hara is the rider of both horses with the jockey enjoying the spotlight mainly due to her association with boom two-year-old Chance Bye.
