Trainer Shaun Dwyer has enjoyed his some of his greatest successes with jockey Michael Rodd and he's hoping it continues with Dutchy's Lass at Sandown.

Rodd will jump aboard the two-year-old filly for the first time in Wednesday's Wood Court Inn Plate (1000m) in which she drew barrier one in an eight-horse field.

"I had her entered for a race at Caulfield this Saturday, but at this stage it would be nice just to get her into the winners' circle," said Dwyer who moved from Deagon in Queensland to Bendigo 10 months ago.

Dwyer is best known for the deeds of outstanding sprinting filly Regimental Gal who won the 2004 Lightning Stakes at Flemington and Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley with Steven King in the saddle.

Rodd won five races aboard Regimental Gal including the 2003 Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic and the San Domenico Stakes and Silver Shadow Stakes, both at Randwick.

Dwyer has had 14 winners, including Heartland, who won at Caulfield in August, since moving to Bendigo where he has 20 horses in work. He will expand that to 30 when extra boxes are built.

Among the trainer's other big wins are the 2004 Grafton and Geelong Cups with Pacific Dancer.

Rodd, who won the Grafton Cup aboard Pacific Dancer, was to ride him in the Melbourne Cup that year but broke his wrist in a fall in Hong Kong and missed the ride on the stayer who finished well back in the field.

"Michael and I go back a fair way. We've won a lot of races together and since I've been at Bendigo he's ridden five or six winners for us, though he isn't always available," Dwyer said.

"He's got the X-factor."

Dwyer said his time at Bendigo had so far been a re-building phase and he was looking to get rolling in the next 12 months with some unraced stock including two two-year-olds by Statue Of Liberty, and other horses by General Nediym, Brief Truce, Starcraft, Reset, Danewin and Danasinga.

Dutchy's Lass is by St Covet stallion Dutch Harry who was prepared by Dwyer to win four races including the 2002 Tatt's Mile (1600m) at Eagle Farm. He was also placed at Group Three level and twice in Listed races in Brisbane.

"He retired from a tendon injury and his owners liked the horse and kept him to stand him at stud," Dwyer said.

"We sent a couple of mares to him. We had a really nice colt by him but he broke his leg as a yearling which was disappointing.

"We've got a full brother to this filly and a couple of others by him and he served seven horses this year.

"He had plenty of ability, he won nearly $300,000. He's not a commercial stallion but he's a nice horse."

Dwyer said Dutchy's Lass had the same good temperament as her sire and had shown ability in two starts finishing runner-up to Warm Love over 1000m at her debut at Moonee Valley on December 4 and a close-up third to Red Belly Black over 1100m at Flemington last Saturday week.
