Improving three-year-old Dusty Star has boosted his Australian Guineas claims with an all-the-way win in the Group Two D'Urban Stakes at Caulfield.

Trainer Peter Morgan was in awe of the performance after cursing what appeared kamikaze riding tactics on the gelding who staved off a wall of challengers to score by a length in Saturday's 1400-metre feature.

Jockey Craig Williams later told Morgan that that he couldn't hold Dusty Star who had been fractious in the mounting yard and charged out to five-length lead in the early stages of the race.

"He was entitled to get beaten because he went pretty steady through the whole race without relaxing at all," Williams said.

Morgan said he was worried that with the hellish pace Dusty Star would capitulate in the straight and without knowing the circumstances was ready to throttle Williams.

"I was saying to myself `Am I going to give it to him when he gets back'," Morgan said.

"On the corner I wanted to break his legs."

Dusty Star had taken confidence from his last-start win at Flemington and with the three-week break between runs was revved up for Saturday's assignment.

Trainer Tony Vasil said Under The Eiffel, who started $2.60 favourite, lost no admirers with his brave second after making a run from the 900m.

"He was he was off the bridle a long way out and entitled to peak on his run," Vasil said.

"Gilded Spur held him up for a bit when it was trying to lay all over him and coming around the corner he wandered a little bit and lost a fraction there too.

"It was just amazing that leader kept going."

Under The Eiffel, who had won his last two starts in sensational fashion, is not in the Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 5 and connections are yet to decide if they will pay the $41,250 late entry.

Eclair Mystic was a half-neck away third while Roadtrain was fourth.

Morgan said that Dusty Star would have one more run before the Guineas andexpects that with a shorter space between his races he will relax much better.

"We always thought he would get a mile (1600m) or beyond even though he is by General Nediym," Morgan said.

A $220,000 Magic Millions yearling, Dusty Star has won four of his 13 starts and is just a couple of thousand dollars short of repaying his purchase price.
