Dubai and Royal Ascot are off the agenda for giant sprinter Hay List, at least for this year.

Trainer John McNair said he and the owners believed it was in Hay List's best interests to stay home for now.

"I want to be racing him for a long time yet and we need to look after him," McNair said.

"So Dubai is out and Ascot is out."

However, McNair said a trip to Singapore for the KrisFlyer Sprint in May was still a possibility.

But first he wants to concentrate on the Newmarket Handicap and the rematch with the world's highest-rated sprinter Black Caviar who beat Hay List by 3-1/4 lengths in the Lightning Stakes.

"I'm thrilled with him and how he went, we're now the second best," McNair said.

"I really want a firm track for the Newmarket.

"I'm not saying he would have beaten her but I'd like something to go our way.

"I'm looking forward to going back to Flemington and taking her on again."

It could also happen again in Sydney with the Group One TJ Smith Classic on April 9 back on the agenda and a target for both sprinters.

Black Caviar's trainer has also indicated the mare will remain in Australia for the time being.

The KrisFlyer in Singapore in May has been added to the Global Sprint Challenge, the first leg of which is the Lightning Stakes.

If Hay List goes it will set up a clash with local star Rocket Man after he returns to Dubai in March to try to go one better than his second last year in the Golden Shaheen.

Rocket Man was second again in the Hong Kong International Sprint in December and last week trainer Patrick Shaw said he would like to take on Black Caviar, perhaps in Australia next spring.

He was critical of the system which rated her above such international performers as J J The Jetplane, Sacred Kingdom and, of course, Rocket Man.

"She is a top filly, but mine is a top gelding," he told the Singapore Turf Club.

"I think it is quite a statement to say that she is the best when she hasn't raced outside of Australia.

"Maybe if I had stayed in Singapore with Rocket Man and not raced overseas I'd have the best horse in the world.

"Until she has taken on those horses like J J The Jetplane and Sacred Kingdom, how can anyone say she is the best."
