Trainer Bryan Guy will use Saturday's Doomben meeting as a springboard towards the longer carnival races for Shuffle The Cash.

The gelding will step out in the Mark Timms, The Good Guys Ipswich Open Handicap (1350m) after an eye-catching first-up third to Mystical Grey over the same trip earlier this month.

It was only the second time the seven-year-old had been placed first-up in five attempts and Guy said he had improved further from that run.

He still expects Shuffle The Cash to find his rivals too sharp on Saturday but says the race is an ideal launching pad towards his longer-term goals.

"He's probably lost a bit of his dash after that first-up run but I have kept him pretty fresh," Guy said.

"It's an ideal race for him to have before we step him up over ground."

Shuffle The Cash won the Group Three Premier's Cup (2200m) at Doomben during the winter carnival last year and was also placed in the Tatt's and Grafton Cups.

Guy is keen to test him at weight-for-age level this winter and has earmarked the Group Two Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast as an important litmus test.

"He will go towards the Hollindale at the Gold Coast on the fifth of May," Guy said.

"From there we will know which way we go and whether he is going to be up to weight-for-age."

Guy's other runners at Doomben include debutante Wisp O' Will, who will tackle the Lachlan Akers, The Good Guys Carseldine 2YO Hcp (1350m) in preference to a 1200m juvenile race at Ipswich a day earlier.

The filly was second to Stolen Kisses at her only barrier trial and Guy said the longer distance at Doomben was appealing.

"Her trial was over 1000 metres and she was back on the fence and finished nicely," Guy said.

"She has improved since and I think the 1350 metres will suit her, which is why we've gone that way.

"I do think she is a rough chance. If we get a wet track again, she's by Red Dazzler and they seem to like it wet, so that would probably suit her."
