A deteriorating Randwick track throughout Tuesday afternoon further boosted trainer Terry McCarthy's confidence in Multire Music, and the mare played her part.

McCarthy, who hails from Ballina on the NSW north coast, thinks so highly of the mare he originally pencilled in the Listed Chief De Beers Quality at Doomben this weekend for her return from a spell.

But with rain playing havoc with her training regime, McCarthy decided the Zetland Handicap (1000m) was an easier assignment.

Sent out at $7.50 on a slow (6), Multire Music wore down Krui Crusader ($9.50) to record her seventh career win, six of which have been on slow tracks.

"I had the Chief De Beers pencilled in but with all the wet weather we've had at home, we haven't had grass tracks to gallop on," McCarthy said.

"She is a very good mare and I think we will come back to Sydney for a fillies and mares race on June Stakes day in a couple of weeks.

"Then maybe we can think about a race like the Ramornie, but everyone wants to win that."

The Ramornie (1200m) is the feature sprint at the Grafton carnival during July.

The wet track also held no problems for More Than Royal who claimed her second win in two weeks on the Kensington track when she took out the Betting Auditorium Hcp (1400m).

The four-year-old has had just 12 starts and trainer Bob Pearse says she is just starting to mature.

"She has been slow to mature which is why she has had only 12 starts but she has always shown ability," he said.

"She is a half-sister to Jersey Lily who ran second in the Coolmore Classic.

"I'm not sure if she's up to that but she will step up to Saturday class next.

"It doesn't seem to matter if it's wet or dry and this time of the year there are races for her."

The $4.40 favourite based on her last win, More Than Royal led all the way and held off Future Solution by a comfortable 2-1/4 lengths.

Earlier in the day before the weather set in, Procyon scored a narrow win in the Daceyville Hcp (1400m) to break his maiden at his ninth start.

He was an unlucky sixth in the rich Vinery Stud Maiden at Scone on May 14 but under strong riding from Hugh Bowman, he beat Ziprossa by a head.

"He's been unlucky and it's good to see him win at last," trainer Bart Cummings said.

"We'll find something else for him now."
