Racing powerhouse Godolphin remains undecided on a suitable race for former Australian star Denman to make his overseas debut.

Denman, the winner of nine races from 12 starts under the care of Peter Snowden, was expected to sport Godolphin's famous royal blue silks for the first time in the July Cup next week.

But Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford said the Newmarket Group One was not a certain target for the gifted sprinter.

"No decision has been made yet on where he goes - we will wait until the end of the week," Crisford told Racing Post.

Denman is also entered for the Sussex Stakes during the famous Goodwood racing festival.

"We want to be happy with the way he is going," Crisford said.

"He will be doing some work during this week and then we will assess him after that."

Denman is one of the best performed Australian runners to join Sheikh Mohammed's northern hemisphere racing operation.

The colt burst onto the scene 12 months ago with three Melbourne wins before claiming two Sydney races, including the Group One Golden Rose at Rosehill.

He joined former stablemates such as Spring Champion Stakes winner Sousa and talented sprinter Fravashi under the care of Godolphin trainer Saeed Bin Suroor after finishing fourth in the Australian Guineas in March.

British bookmakers have quoted Denman as short as 10-1 in July Cup markets which are dominated by another former Australian galloper, Starspangledbanner.

Starspangledbanner and Denman met once during their Australian careers.

It was Starspangledbanner who caused an upset with an all-the-way win in the Caulfield Guineas with Denman, the $3.10 favourite, finishing seventh.
