Peter Moody-trained two-year-old Carlton Forward will be looking to kick a goal at his race debut when he attempts to emulate his mother in Saturday's Junior Jocks Christmas Party Plate at Moonee Valley.

Carlton Forward is by Group One Galaxy winner Charge Forward and the first foal from Bianconi mare Carlton Ace who won the same 1000m race at the Valley when making her race debut five years ago.

Back then the event was restricted to fillies but for the last four years it has been run as an open two-year-old race.

Carlton Ace raced 12 times and her only two wins were at her first two runs but Moody believes her son has the scope to train on to longer races.

"She (Carlton Ace) was very quick but we don't think he is a dead-set speed horse," Moody's racing manager Jeff O'Connor said.

"We want to stretch him out to 1400 metres in time."

A $65,000 yearling, Carlton Forward's only public appearance was in a barrier trial at Cranbourne where he impressed when winning by three lengths over 800 metres is a slick 47.33s on a dead track on November 10.

"He has shown us nice ability and we are looking for a nice run from him on Saturday," O'Connor said.

"In his trial I think he came from second or third and his last 200 metres was pretty good."

Moody also accepted with Carlton Forward in Saturday's Inglis Sydney Classic Sale Handicap (1150m) at Randwick.

"We have him in up there but we will keep him home and run here as it came up a weaker race and he has drawn barrier five rather than the second outside in a bigger field in Sydney," O'Connor said.

Carlton Ace was trained by Tony McEvoy and was the first of four consecutive winners of the Moonee Valley two-year-old race for Lindsay Park.

McEvoy also trained Davout who won in 2004 while David Hayes won with Twist Contest (2005) and Cinque Rouge (2006).

The winning run came to an end last year when Augusta Proud was successful for Leon Macdonald.

Last-start Maribyrnong Plate third placegetter Happy Knockout and Tricolore carry the Hayes stable's hopes on Saturday.

Glen Boss will ride Happy Knockout, who has been placed at her only two starts, while Craig Williams will ride Tricolore who was a $625,000 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling.
