Michael Cahill has snared the ride on Sniper's Bullet who could begin his Queensland campaign as soon as next Saturday's Sir Byrne Hart Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Sniper's Bullet won the Group One Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm in 2007 but could not repeat the feat when 12th to Mr. Baritone in last year's $1 million feature.

Trainer Tracey Bartley hopes to send Sniper's Bullet to Brisbane this week but wants to talk with the five-year-old's owners before confirming a start in Saturday's 1400-metre feature.

"I only found out Michael was back in the country while talking to his mother at the races last week," Bartley said.

"I've booked him to ride Sniper's Bullet in the Sir Byrne Hart and it may be he'll ride him throughout the carnival if he goes well.

"The horse still might not go north for the Sir Byrne Hart yet until I discuss it with his owners.

"But he'll definitely be headed up that way and will run in the BTC Cup before the Doomben 10,000 and Stradbroke."

The Group One BTC Cup (1200m) is at Doomben on May 9, a fortnight before the Group One Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and the Stradbroke Handicap on June 6.

Sniper's Bullet hasn't raced since his failure in the Group Two Villiers Handicap (1600m) won by Something Anything at Randwick in December when he lost a plate and finished in front of just one other runner.

The loss came after a late spring campaign when he was sent to Melbourne for the Group One Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in November and then to Perth.

Sniper's Bullet finished a creditable fifth to Royal Discretion in his Melbourne debut in the Group Three Jayco Cup (1400m) at Caulfield in October.

He was then runner-up to All Silent in the Group Three AAMI Travel (1400m) at Flemington in November before his ninth in the Emirates Stakes won by All Silent.

Sniper's Bullet made the long trip to Perth for the Group One Railway Stakes (1600m) in November and the Group One Kingston Town (1800m) at Ascot the following month.

The son of Bite The Bullet was beaten in a photo when an unlucky second to Gilded Venom in the Railway Stakes before finishing third to Niconero in the Kingston Town.

"He should have won the Railway but he waited too long and got held up for a run," Bartley said.

Cahill has been riding in Singapore for the past six months but an application to extend his stay was rejected by the Singapore Turf Club.

The three-time Group One winning jockey made his comeback at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
