Daring tactics from jockey Michael Cahill delivered trainer Tony Gollan a memorable day when Toowoomba sprinter Temple Of Boom won the Listed Mick Dittman Plate at Eagle Farm.

Cahill was in deep pre-race discussions with the three-year-old's owners before coming up with tactics which defied a track bias on the heavy surface.

"I anticipated being with the leaders but he made a mistake early," Cahill said.

"On this track you either have to be on the extreme outside or be right up against the rail.

"I spoke about it with the owners before the race and we decided to give it a go on the fence."

Cahill was back worse than midfield approaching the home turn but as the field fanned wide, Temple Of Boom railed perfectly to hit the front half way down the straight before scoring by 1-3/4 lengths to Sarge In Charge in the 1000-metre feature.

Sydney filly Graceful Anna was a further half head away third.

Cahill was at his brilliant best two races earlier to win down the middle of the track on Devoirs in the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m).

Temple Of Boom's victory gave Gollan a winning double after the gelding's half-brother Spirit Of Boom took out the QTIS 600 Handicap (1000m).

Gollan trained the sprinters' mother, Temple Spirit, who was a good performer, winning eight of her 16 starts.

Gollan was always confident Temple Of Boom could make a successful comeback at his first start since finishing eighth in the Magic Millions Trophy (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January.

"It was the best field he's been in but we were always confident he could win," Gollan said.

"But I'm not getting too carried away as a lot of credit for the win goes to the rider for sticking to the fence.

"It's been a big day after winning with his half brother earlier."

"He loves the wet and nothing had been on the fence all day so we decided just before the race to give it a try."

Temple Of Boom will now head to the Group Three Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) on May 8 but plans beyond that are undecided.

Also headed to the Gold Cost Guineas will be third placegetter Graceful Anna and Paprika, who finished fourth.

Trainer David Pfeiffer was delighted with Graceful Anna's effort but had some issues with the track.

"It was a good win but she was a little slow out of the gates," Pfeiffer said.

"The jockey (Larry Cassidy) said she got through the ground okay but the track was the biggest problem for her.

"She'll go to the Gold Guineas and hopefully on to the Stradbroke."

Trainer Liam Birchley was unsure where to head next with runner-up Sarge In Charge but was delighted with Paprika's fourth in her first start since October.

"Sarge In Charge loves the ground and I've always liked him but he wasn't suited by hard grounds last campaign," he said.

"Nothing in the race will improve more than Paprika and she'll go to the Gold Coast Guineas next."
