Improving stayer Butwaittheresmore will be on trial for a Perth Cup start at Caulfield on Wednesday.

The Lord Of Warriors four-year-old has been freshened up at trainer Mike Moroney's Flemington stables for a month for the Fileur Hcp (2440m) since flying home late to finish third to Banana Man and Imvula in the Bendigo Cup (2400m) on November 12.

"He was very unlucky in the Bendigo Cup. He should have won easily," stable manager Anthony Feroce said.

"The plan is for him to run tomorrow and then (in the 2500m Comic Court Hcp) at Flemington on December 20 and then we'll make a decision on whether he goes to Perth or stays here for the Bagot."

The Group Two $400,000 Perth Cup (2400m) is at Ascot on January 1 while the Listed $150,000 Bagot Hcp (2800m) is at Flemington the same day.

Butwaittheresmore has won two of his 15 starts and last season Moroney tried him against the best three-year-olds in New Zealand and Australia.

The gelding ran sixth to C'est La Guerre in the NZ Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie in March and 11th to Nom Du Jeu in the AJC Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick in April.

During the spring he ran 12th to Gallopin in the Group Two Moonee Valley Cup (2500m) and two starts back worked home well to finish third to Dandaad in the Lavazza Long Black (2800m) at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.

Greg Childs takes over the reins on Butwaittheresmore.

Moroney has stablemates Mission Critical and Railings in Perth and they finished fifth and 14th respectively to Niconero in last Saturday's Group One Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot.

Both will run in next Wednesday's Group Two $250,000 CB Cox Stakes (2100m) at Ascot.

Feroce said Railings would go on to the Perth Cup.

"They just went too fast for him and he'll be better suited in the longer races," he said.

"Mission Critical went very well. He was having his first start since Melbourne Cup day (when third to Annenkov in a Listed race over 1800m)."

"He could also go to the Perth Cup, otherwise he'll come home and be freshened up for an Australian Cup campaign."

Meanwhile, the David Hayes-trained Forays looks a good chance to atone for his unlucky third over 1200m at Moonee Valley last Saturday week in Wednesday's Snitzel Hcp (1100m).

The Anabaa three-year-old was slow to begin and had to be checked near the 500m but came from last on the home turn to finish on the heels of the winner, the unbeaten True Tales, and runner-up Carryusall.

In-form apprentice Dean Holland take the ride on Forays replacing Craig Williams who is overseas.
