Bush treks have Mind Your Head primed for a showdown with Lucky Secret in a four-horse Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield.

Mind Your Head's trainer John Ledger said he was looking forward to a race of tactics after connections of Cocinero and Bond Street decided to run at Moonee Valley on Friday night instead of Saturday's Group Three sprint.

"It is going to be a small field but I think it will be exciting for punters," Ledger said.

He said had a great respect for Lucky Secret but believes Mind Your Head is at his top and ready to expose any chinks in the Tony Vasil-trained sprinter who has won nine of his 13 starts.

"I am looking forward to the challenge," Ledger said.

"Whether we can knock him off or not I'm not too sure, but it is going to be a good race."

Happy Glen, who has won his last four starts, and Heresay who last start was an unlucky second after winning his two previous runs, make up the field with Mind Your Head and Lucky Secret who is resuming.

With a changed training regime, Mind Your Head is unbeaten this campaign after scoring a soft first-up win at Wangaratta and a Listed victory over Orbit Express in the Christmas Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Boxing Day.

Each time he came he literally came out of the bush to win.

While Mind Your Head swims 400 metres daily, every Sunday and Wednesday for the last two months he has been dressed up with a show jumping saddle and a set of boots and accompanied a group of event horses on a walk and a trot through the Wangaratta bush.

With a reputation for being "a head case", Mind You Head is calmer and more assured and it is showing on the track.

"He was a little bit excitable when he first started going into the bush but then he dropped the bit and really enjoyed the day," Ledger said.

For the first time, Ledger is able to plan a racing program for the six-year-old without the fear of him ruining it with his antics.

"I think we may have him sorted out," Ledger said. "I'm pretty confident he is horse who is going to have really good campaign.

"We have got a wonderful (training) program that he is really enjoying and if Mind Your Head is happy he is a very good racecourse.

"I think we saw that in the Christmas Stakes."

Ledger said beating Lucky Secret around Caulfield over 1100 metres was a tall order but he would settle for second and aim Mind Your Head at the Group Two Carlyon Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on January 23.

"He looks absolutely awesome," Ledger said. "He looks strong, looks happy and his coat looks super.

"At last maturity has come his way and that has helped him."
