Young gun apprentice Tim Bell could get the opportunity to ride in a Group One race at Randwick on Saturday if Border Rebel runs in the Galaxy.

Trainer Sue Grills said she would wait until she studied the weights on Tuesday to decide whether the four-year-old speedster would start in the 1100m race.

Bell is indentured to Grills at Tamworth and is the regular partner of Border Rebel, guiding the gelding to eight of his nine wins.

The 17-year-old Bell was last season's champion country apprentice in NSW and in the past few months has ridden many winners in Brisbane and Sydney, attracting the eye of leading trainers including Peter Snowden of Darley.

"I have to study the weights and talk it over with the owner before I decide if he runs," Grills said.

"If he does, Tim will certainly ride him.

"But I need to make sure the horse is not harshly weighted before I step him up to a Group One."

Border Rebel has won his past five starts which have all been in Sydney but he has not yet raced at Randwick.

There were 20 entries for the Galaxy including 2008 winner Typhoon Zed, New Zealand Railway winner Gold Trail and Randwick 1000 metre course record holder De Lightning Ridge.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained Definitely Ready is set to come to Sydney from Melbourne as are outstanding mare Ortensia and filly Rostova.

The Steve Richards-trained Rostova claimed an overdue Group One win in the Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide on March 20.

The filly was the beaten favourite in the 2009 Blue Diamond Stakes and her last win before the Robert Sangster was in the Group Two VRC Sires' Produce Stakes after her Blue Diamond fifth.
