Bookmakers are confident Agent Bauer can make the quantum leap to stakes company with the lightly-raced stayer equal favourite in first markets for the Australia Day Cup.

The Gwenda Markwell-trained four-year-old is at $3.20 alongside hardy stayer Strike One for the 2400m Listed event which is being run at Warwick Farm this year instead of Randwick.

Agent Bauer only scored his maiden win in November but has racked up three more victories since including a last-start 6-1/2 length win over All Black Miss on the Kensington track at Randwick, his first attempt at 2400 metres.

Strike One was given a comfortable barrier trial last week in preparation for his first race since his second to Spechenka in the Summer Cup on Boxing Day.

Although he hasn't won since he took out the Stayer's Cup (3200m) at Rosehill in June, trainer Chris Waller believes he can be a force on Wednesday.

"I thought his Summer Cup run was good," Waller said.

"He got a long way back and finished it off strongly and I think he can go close again."

Nash Rawiller, who won the Stayer's Cup on Strike One, will be back aboard on Wednesday while Glyn Schofield rides Warringah, a $15 chance.

Warringah was purchased out of Sir Michael Stoute's yard and came to Australia to run in the 2009 Melbourne Cup in which he ran last after over-racing in front for the first half of the race.

"He ran a pretty good race last time," Waller said.

The trainer admits Warringah has been an enigma and sent him to Queensland for a change of scenery.

Warringah won his first Australian race on November 2 and returned to Waller's Rosehill stable last month.

A field of 10 will run in Wednesday's feature race for which Strike One is topweight with 58 kilograms.

Brom Brom is set to back up in the race after his sixth to Barlagarney at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Joe Pride-trained Brom Brom beat just one runner home but finished within five lengths of the winner.
