Interesting to read today that Lights of Heaven has been heavily backed to win the Melbourne Cup after Saturday's Brisbane Cup triumph, with TAB Sportsbet reporting a strong push that has seen the mare's price slashed from $101 to $35.

This is interesting because after Lights of Heaven's 2400m Brisbane Cup win, jockey Luke Nolen himself reported that, "I think a mile and a half sees her out but she has been excellent this whole prep." To be fair, jockeys are notoriously bad judges, so let's hope Luke's doubts about the two miles are misguided if anyone had a nibble at the 100's on offer.

Speaking of misguided, what on earth are some of these other odds for the Cup? Do they not realise that the race is the best part of 5 months away? Would be nice if a bookie went out on a limb every now and then and framed a realistic market...
