The generic ratings I am developing is fairly well set for the sprinters as there are really only a handful of serious sprints left this spring and although there will be different results it will take some really poor efforts from Apache Cat to drop his rating as my top sprinter. After his excellent second to Lucky Secret in course record over 1000m it does not seem as if he is going backwards just yet.

In tomorrows Group 2 Wfa Schweppes Stake over 1200m I have Apache Cat on top , in my ratings, by 0.25kg from Mic Mac with a further 1.0kg to Danleigh and another 0.5 kg to Lucky Secret. I did the form, as per my usual methods, this morning and I have the top three horses in my ratings the same as my top three selections but in a different order. I will reveal my order in tomorrow mornings podcast.

Both the sprint and the WS Cox Plate are going to be just so absorbing as their individual races unfold in the first 200m and the main players jostle for position. In the sprint I will be very surprised if Lucky Secret does not lead from his superb barrier but the worrying aspect for favourites punters will be how far Apache Cat gets back in the run from barrier 4. If he is in the first four or five early his backers will be on good terms with themselves as we all know what a terrific sprint he has when he lets loose. His stablemate Mic Mac should not be too far off the pace either and a stable quinella would be on the cards if both have trouble free runs. Bring it on!!

Everyone, and I include the committee that put him in the race, will be hoping Sir Slick strolls to the lead early and sets some sort of pace to eliminate the farcical pace set down the side in last years Plate allowing Maldivian to "steal" the race. I expect Manhattan Rain to go forward as well and I would not be surprised to see him actually lead Sir Slick going out of the straight. The issue of real interest will be where the main players eventually slot in and that is simply going to be a product of how they jump out of the barriers. Bar Sir Slick, Manhattan Rain and Nom De Jeu most of the field are not even on pacers that sit 3rd or 4th early and there will be bumping and shoving as they go out of the straight. I am fairly sure El Segundo, Zipping and Black Piranha will drop out very quickly early but after that we will have to wait and see. Again, bring it on!
