They're off...The first three international horses across the line in the Melbourne Cup have left Australia and will shoot for overseas riches. Third placegetter Jakkalberry, fast-finishing Mount Athos and Ed Dunlop's Red Cadeaux will all be starters in the Japan Cup in Tokyo on Nov 25. Mount Athos, who raced wide before his bold 5th to Green Moon was accompanied on his flight to Japan by trainer Luca Cumani's travelling foreman Charlie Henson. He says: 'The Cup, from our point of view, was obviously disappointing because Mount Athos was flying at the end and just ran out of time.' The 2011 Melbourne Cup winner Dunaden will remain at Werribee until November 25. He will have his next start in Hong Kong. Accompanying him will be the Cumani-trained My Quest For Peace. Both will tackle next month's Hong Kong Vase, a race Dunaden won last year.

Frankie Dettori will face a France Galop inquiry next week after testing positive for a banned substance at Longchamp in September. Solicitor Christopher Stewart-Moore released a statement on behalf of Dettori revealing the news that the Medical Committee of the French authority are planning a hearing. The statement, issued to Press Association Sport, said: "On behalf of Frankie Dettori I can confirm that, as a consequence of a positive test at Longchamp on September 16 2012, he will be the subject of an inquiry by the Medical Committee of France Galop next week." Dettori would not be the first high-profile jockey to fall foul of the French authorities - Kieren Fallon was banned for six months in 2006 after returning a positive test for a metabolite of a banned substance, and received a further 18 months after a second positive in August 2007.
