Smart-aleck apprentice Daniel Ganderton has been taken down a peg or two after his behavior at a stewards' hearing last Saturday. Stewards have put him on a good behaviour trial for 12 months after an inquiry into the incident. Ganderton pleaded guilty to improper behaviour. Stewards heard submissions from trainer Gai Waterhouse and clinical and sports psychologist Grant Brecht. Brecht has been counselling Ganderton on Waterhouse's direction. Stewards took into account that Ganderton had shown remorse and was undergoing professional counselling to rectify 'behavioural issues'. They fined him $500 but also issued a penalty of a one month suspension that will be stayed for 12 months on the condition Ganderton does not breach racing's behavioural conduct rules during that time.
