Another shambles...Two major European quarantine centres have been declared unsuitable by Australian officials - and that means international horses may not be able to run in this year's Melbourne spring carnival. In a move which will torpedo the spring, the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service says the Ballydoyle quarantine establishment in Ireland and the Side Hill operation in Newmarket, England, do not satisfy its stringent guidelines. The problem? The centres apparently don't isolate the horses enougth. This has to be a joke...the centres are regularly used for horses who are sent to other international destinations. No problems.

Is there a solution? Australia's talent scout for major spring races, Leigh Jordan, arrives in England today and he will be having talks in a bid to overcome the quarantine problem. At the same time he will begin the recruiting drive to bring horses to Australia in the spring.
