A Melbourne Cup bid is 'very much on the cards' for UK stayer Sans Frontiere after his victory in the 2800m Irish St Leger at The Curragh overnight. Sans Frontieres swept down the outside of the field to run out a comfortable winner. The 13/8 fav was given a confident ride by Olivier Peslier, who had the move covered when Dermot Weld's Melbourne Cup entry Profound Beauty took command over a furlong and a half (300m) out. 'At The Races' website says: 'Peslier never had to get that serious to reel in Weld's charge, with three-quarters of a length the winning margin in favour of the Jeremy Noseda-trained four-year-old. Bookmakers William Hill cut Sans Frontieres to 14/1 from 25/1 for the Melbourne Cup.

Will Sans Frontiere be a Melbourne Cup starter? Barry Simpson, racing manager to winning owner Sir Robert Ogden, said: 'We will talk it over with Sir Robert, but the plan was to find out if he got the trip, and Melbourne is very much on the cards. Sir Robert has been very keen to go to that race and run well there.'
