Nothing spectacular from Red Cadeaux at Newmarket UK overnight...Last year's Melbourne Cup winner finished only 3rd in the Princess of Wales 2400m, beaten 4.25 lengths. Send out 5/2 second fav, Red Cadeaux tracked the leaders early, moved into 2nd and was under pressure 400m out but could not make ground on the winner Fiorente 11/2 (Ryan Moore), who scored by almost 3 lengths from Joshua Tree 20/1 with Red Cadeaux fading into 3rd 1.5 lengths away. Two other Melbourne Cup hopefuls, Jakkalberry and Quest for Peace were non-starters. Red Cadeaux is being set for another crack at the Melbourne Cup and perhaps we shouldn't read too much into his 2400m failure - he seems to be a deadset 3200m type.

Aussie stars Sepoy and Ortensia have fared well in the barrier draw for Saturday's Grp 1 July Cup (6f) at Newmarket UK. The feature sprint has a field of 15 including King's Stand Stakes runner-up Bated Breath, who will start from gate #5. Sepoy is in gate #4 and Ortensia #8.
