Is the mighty Shane Dye at 42 about to make a comeback to race riding? Well, he's not saying as much (yet) but he is riding trackwork in NZ for Karapiro trainers Steven Ramsay and Julia Ritchie as well as making regular appearances at the Matamata track. His five trial rides on Tuesday were for the Ramsay-Ritchie partnership and Jason Bridgman, from which he rode three placegetters. Shane says: 'I'm not considering race riding at this stage...If I do it will be when I'm ready - and right now I'm not ready.'

Top UK jockey Ryan Moore has been booked for the Melbourne Cup ride on the well-fancied early favorite Mount Athos, trained by Luca Cumani. Moore has won Grp races in nine countries as well as three jockey premierships in Britain. Moore was aboard Mount Athos when the horse won the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury in August.
