Former highly-rated New Zealand three-year-old filly Role Model was an impressive trial winner at Royal Randwick this morning for new trainer Gai Waterhouse.

Role Model, second in the Wellington Guineas and fifth in the Thousand Guineas in New Zealand in October and November last year, is about to resume her racing career in Australia.

This morning, when ridden by Tim Clark, Role Model raced outside the well-performed Spurtonic, but was too strong in the straight to win impressively by one length.

Gai Waterhouse, who had five runners in the trial, also produced Rain Drum for third.

The winner stopped the clock in 58.5 seconds for the 1000-metres.

Stayers Prince Cheri for David Vandyke and Juliennas for Waterhouse were both given easy trials and finished at the rear of the field. (from Racing Network)
