After his Singapore stint, Glen Boss could be quickly back on the big-race path...He has two prime rides for the new season, Cups hope Shamrocker and Golden Rose aspirant Smart Missile. Bossy rode Shamrocker in trackwork last week and gave her the thumbs-up for the tough Cups campaign but he's giving up the ride on the mare in the Memsie on Aug 27 in favor of heading to Sydney to take the mount on Smart Missile in the Grp 3 Run to the Rose. He'll be on him, too, in the Golden Rose on Sep 10. Trainer Anthony Cummings fancies Smart Missile for a winning return. He says: 'He's come back bigger and stronger...The Golden Rose will give us a guide on whether we should be looking at a Caulfield Guineas-Cox Plate type preparation or if it looks like he will be better suited over the shorter trips we can aim at the Coolmore 1200m on Victoria Derby day.'

Lots of hype, hardly any runners...That's how it seems to be with many of those quality races in the UK. Wednesday's Sussex Stakes is another example. Frankel and Canford Cliffs will take on only two rivals in the Grp 1 (1600m) race at Goodwood. A field of 4 in what's billed as the 'most anticipated race of the UK summer'? OK, but it's hardly a betting lure is it? Let's hope there are no scratchings.
