MAGIC MILLIONS REPORT: Gai Waterhouse-trained runners dominated the finish of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast. In a highly controversial finish, Driefontein, the race favorite was awarded the race in the stewards' room after finishing 2nd across the line to stablemate No Looking Back. NLB was first past the post but drifted out in the straight after following the rails through and impeded Driefontein. Stewards deemed that it was enough to reverse the result. Punters warmed to Driefontein throughout Magic Millions betting in the weeks leading into today's feature, and one punter stepped in today with a bet of $10,000 @ $3.50. No Looking Back, however, was backed in from $13 into $10 late in betting and its supporters would be rueing their luck, having lost the race on protest.

Queensland sprinter Spirit Of Boom will follow in the footsteps of older half-brother Temple Of Boom by heading to Melbourne for this year's Spring Racing Carnival. The Tony Gollan-trained galloper booked his ticket south with a barnstorming win in Saturday's $330,000 Magic Millions Cup (1400m) on the Gold Coast. Spirit Of Boom ($7) was ridden back in the field by jockey Ric McMahon and unleashed a devastating turn of foot to finish over the top of Startsmeup ($7) and the David Payne-trained Latin News ($9).
