Like a Bird - but what sort?

Leica Falcon hasn't won for about 4 years. He ran a blinder in Makybe Diva's third Melbourne Cup.

Some felt he should have won it.

Last (24th) to fourth in the straight.

He missed the Cup in the EI year, then went wrong. Missing that season was a tragedy for his country connections; especially as they could see the Victorian border from just near their property, but they were not allowed to cross the Murray into Victoria with their horse.

Well, on Saturday he's in over 1800 at Caulfield.

Forget about having a bet.

We've missed $61.

We've missed $51.

We've missed $41 and $31.

He's now $26 best and that's rare.

Remember he hasn't won since 2005.

What can we learn?

Well, I suspect the betting is on a roll and that the 1800 metres will still be too short, but of course I could be very, very wrong.

Is 25/1 still a go? It would be if we knew anything.

But we don't. At least I don't, and you probably don't either. So do we watch, and maybe learn about bookmaker-inspired plunges?

I reckon we do.

If the horse wins, good for it. But all my instincts say that if I have missed 60/1, I don't take 25/1, or even 20/1.

We'll see.
