HOW TO WIN WITHOUT BACKING A WINNER.

I read this on Michael's copy for the next magazine (June issue) and I sort of "borrowed" it. Mike's version is much longer but I couldn't restrain myself.

On Saturday past, there were a lot of scratchings, late and normal.

People started betting on the Thursday and some even bet on the Friday.

On Saturday, the roof fell in.

A heavy 10 for the second week in a row. Frankly I thought this one was worse, but they don't do 11.

They only do "abandoned".

And with that they do millions of dollars. So, they race.

The trick was to bet on the final race-to-race (running) double.

Rangirangdoo came out late in the big race. Others also came out, including the well-fancied Kris Lees-trained Motspur in the final race.

So, and this happened, you might chalked up that running double.

But with both those horses out, your bet went onto the substitute in each leg.

And...

you're ahead of me...

wait for it...

They both won!

The return in NSW was $13.40, or better than 12/1.

You backed neither and, for your non-running double, you got better than 12/1.

Some people have all the luck, and they did!
