A Way of Looking

I was recently asked how to tie up a race. That isn't easy, as we all know.

I asked why. I was told that this punter wanted to just have one series of bets on one race every day.

"Tie it up" he called it.

Well, I suggested this. It may not be your cup of tea, but I do think it beats a haphazard spray across the board.

1. Limit your selections to four in the one race.

2. Choose a race where the market is fairly wide.

3. Be pretty certain you can get the winner and placegetters in those four. Can't get this? Drop the race because IT'S too hard.

4. Settle on a race where you believe that you CAN get those four.

5. Couple them in six Quinellas for $5 each, a $1 box Trifecta and a $1 box First Four.

6. The total cost is $78 for the dollar unit.

7. You need a $16 quinella to cover the whole bet.

8. Of course you can halve these bet sizes if you wish.

The advantage? You actually focus on ONE race and make it your target race.

Agreed, if you get that one race wrong, the whole thing is lost. But I feel that with practice and patience you can probably make a go of a plan like this.

It just takes a long term determination to succeed.
