Saturday’s brilliant two-year-old winner Golconda has been sent straight to the spelling paddock. Trainer Robbie Laing, riding the crest of a wave of city winners, says the next time we see Golconda on the racetrack will be in the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies, at Caulfield early next year.

The daughter of champion two-year-old sire Snitzel did everything right on Saturday in the Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) and Laing pointed out this morning how impressive her sectional times were.

“She ran the fastest last 200 metres of any horse at the meeting, and her last 600 metres was quicker than Lankan Rupee (winner of the Open Sprint),” he said.

“I think there’s a lot of upside to her, I really do, and we’ll give her a chance to prove it now,” Laing added. (report from Racing Network).
