FOR the owners of fillies and mares running in one of the 11 stakes races taking place on the eastern seaboard today, a win or placing will all but guarantee a career in the breeding barn and add a few more zeros to the value of their foals, reports The Age.

It says: This is not lost on Mick Price, who sends four well-performed females to Adelaide today in search of a stakes win on a bumper program at Morphettville.

Price won the group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes last year with Bel Mer and is hoping to make it back-to-back wins in the sprint with recent stable acquisition Velocitea. Price took over the training of Velocitea late last year when Brian Mayfield-Smith retired from training, and she is unbeaten in two runs for her new mentor.

''She's done really well for us and this is a golden opportunity for her in a group 1 race to really add to her value as a broodmare,'' Price said.

''She was a little soft first-up when she nearly got caught on the line, but you could see the improvement in her last time. She's flying and will run a big race.''

Joining Velocitea in Adelaide will be Aloha and Nakaaya - two fillies chasing the group 1 Australasian Oaks. Although Price gives the fillies sound chances, he would be happier if his representatives were a cross between the two.
